April, 2009 National Volunteer Week Celebration
Employment for Seniors, Inc. recognizes
Technology Volunteer Gary Sams, Employment for Seniors, Inc., congratulates Gary Sams as the first Agent of Change Award Winner (technology category), sponsored by FirstLink and UBS. Gary has diligently worked to increase the technological systems of Employment for Seniors for many years. He was recognized at the first Agent of Change Award program on Monday, April 20, held at Dodge Recreation Center in Columbus. FIRSTLINK began this year’s National Volunteer Week (April 20-24, 2009) by recognizing five central Ohio residents with the first annual Agent of Change Award for their volunteer efforts to make central Ohio a better place to live and work. The award, sponsored by UBS, honors recipients for their public service contributions and recognizes the volunteers in the categories of Advocacy, Basics, Board, Neighborhood and Technology. Along with Gary Sams the other volunteers were recognized for their work at Habitat for Humanity, Godman Guild and the Columbus Zoo. National Volunteer Week, with the 2009 theme of Celebrating People in Action, is focused on inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their community. Honored guests at Monday's breakfast included the Master of Ceremonies Cabot Rae, Franklin County Commissioner John O'Grady, Ohio Senator Ray Miller (D-OH 15), and Columbus City Councilmember Priscilla Tyson. "This week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek ways to engage in our community. It's about acknowledging that we meet our challenges not as isolated individuals but as members of a community, all of us working together," said FIRSTLINK President and CEO, Marilee Chinnici-Zuercher. "The individuals we are honoring are at the center of social change and have the power to make a difference." The following information was provided in the FirstLink press-release on Gary Sams:
